OATS Acquired by Haynes Publishing Group

Swindon, UK-based lubricant data solutions provider OATS announced last week it has been acquired by UK-based automotive technical data provider Haynes Publishing Group P.L.C. for £2.4 million, with £1.85 million payable in cash on completion and additional liabilities of £550,000 assumed as part of the transaction.

Sebastian Crawshaw, Chairman, OATS announced he will be retiring but will remain involved in a consultancy capacity to facilitate a smooth transition. Peter van der Galiën, Managing Director of HaynesPro, will take over the day to day management of OATS.

"It has been a fascinating journey from being a small UK focused company to a becoming a globally oriented European business servicing some of the world most important companies. OATS has moved from paper, floppies and CDs to the internet and now the cloud. I believe that OATS will be better placed to provide our customers with better solutions and invest faster in next phases of development by uniting with HaynesPro," said Crawshaw.

"I would like to congratulate Sebastian Crawshaw and his team for their outstanding achievements over the past 20 years. OATS are a well-recognised name in the world's oil and lubrication industry and they proudly serve many customers around the globe. I am looking forward to working with the OATS team and its customers to continue to provide great products and services. The acquisition of OATS complements the offering from HaynesPro in the automotive aftermarket and by joining forces both companies will be able to further enhance the product offering and service levels to their joined customer base," said van der Galiën.

OATS, founded in 1993, currently has 35 staff and has developed an equipment and lubricants database that supports customers including original equipment manufacturers, oil companies and lubricant distributors as well as workshops, motor parts resellers and garages. For its financial year ended 30 June 2016, the reportable pre-tax loss of the OATS Group was £0.1 million on revenue of £2.2 million. As at 30 June 2016, the OATS Group had gross assets of £3.3 million.

According to the company, HaynesPro is now the leading provider of online automotive technical data in Europe. The company has about 140 employees across Europe. HaynesPro technical data is used by a large number of companies including leading automotive parts distributors, fleet owners, diagnostic equipment manufacturers and over 50,000 workshops in Europe.
