Mack has revised its now 25 page Service Bulletin 'Approved Oils, Mack Components', introduced in November 2009 and last revised in November 2012. This bulletin identifies the oil requirements and lists the companies offering oil types and qualities required for Mack components.
Within this revised Service Bulletin SB 175-61, Release 07, 3.2013, Mack lists all the Mack approved oils for each of the following:
EO-O Premium Plus Approved Engine Oils
Note: All the oils listed in the table meet the VDS-4 standard. They also meet VDS-2, VDS-3, EO-N Premium Plus and API CJ-4 quality standards. Oil from this list is REQUIRED for model year 2007 and later Mack engines and are recommended for earlier engines.
EO-N Premium Plus Approved Oils
Note: The listed oils are only approved for engines meeting the 2004 emission requirements for 2004 and older Mack engines and are NOT approved for model year 2007 and later Mack engines.
Approved Oils, MACK mDRIVE Transmissions
This bulletin states that MACK mDRIVE transmissions are factory filled with oil according to VOLVO STD 1273.18 (Transmission Oil 97318). This oil type allows 800,000 km (500,000 mile) "extended" oil drain intervals in the "D" and "E" Design Level mDRIVE transmissions in on the road long haul applications with max 80,000 lbs GCW. Oils meeting VOLVO STD 1273.19 (Transmission Oil 97319) can also be used for this purpose. Mack provides a list of commercial oils meeting both 97318 and 97319 (800,000 km (500,000 mile)) "extended" oil drain intervals and 97307 and 97315 (400,000 km (250,000 mile)) "regular" oil drain interval.
Approved Oils, MACK Transmissions
TO-A Plus Approved Oils are for use in Mack (non-mDrive) transmissions only. These oils are extended life lubricants. These oils are approved as of October 14, 2010.
Approved Oils, MACK Components
GO-J Approved Oils
GO-J approved oils are for use in MACK carriers, MACK transfer cases and MACK (non-mDRIVE) transmissions. These oils were approved as of March 11, 2003.
GO-J Plus Approved Oils
GO-J Plus Approved oils are for use in MACK carriers, MACK transfer cases and MACK (non-mDRIVE) transmissions. According to this bulletin, these oils were approved as of October 14, 2010.
