European Bus OEM to Exclusively Use Valvoline Lubricants

Valvoline has announced its collaboration with TAM Durabus, a Slovenian commercial vehicle and bus manufacturer. In a multi-year collaboration, TAM will exclusively use Valvoline engine, transmission and gearbox oils and anti-corrosion products in all newly built vehicles built for the Europe, Middle East and Africa regions.

Kline’s February Base Stock Margin Shows Significant Drop in Base Stock Profitability

Last month, consulting and research firm Kline & Company introduced its monthly Base Stock Margin Index, a characterization of recent cash margin contributions in the U.S. base oil market over the past 24 months. The index estimates cash margin contributions associated with U.S. Group II base stock production.

Gulf Oil to Increase Existing India Plant Capacity, Also Build New Plant

Further our story last week, Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd, has told OEM/Lube News that it is planning to increase capacity of its current lube blending plant in Silvassa, near Mumbai, to 100,000 MT annually, and also plans to build a second lubricants blending plant near Chennai in the next 24 months. The new blending plant has a planned capacity of 50,000 MT of lubricants annually.

California Proposes Bill Requiring All Motor Oil be 25% Biosynthetic

A Californians senator has introduced legislation that would require his state to buy motor oil with 25% biodegradable content. Senate Bill 916 would require the use of biobased motor oil in all state vehicles and state contractor’s vehicles by January 2016. After January 1, 2017, all motor oil sold or distributed in the state for use in passenger cars, light-duty trucks or vans would need to meet the 25 percent standard.

Total, Suncor Report 4Q13 Financials

Paris, France-based Total last Wednesday reported fourth quarter profit of $2.18 billion, down 28 per cent from $3.04 billion a year earlier. Canada's Suncor Energy meanwhile reported fourth quarter 2013 operating earnings of C$973 (US$886) compared to C$988 million for the fourth quarter of 2012.
