Chinese Base Oil Demand and Supply to Increase in Second Half 2013
Chinese base oil demand is expected to pick up in 2013 in line with recovering demand from industrial and automotive lubricants. Group I base oils in the first quarter of 2013 are slightly tight much due to shutdown and scheduled maintenance of base oil plants. For Group II base oils, although many Asian refiners will have maintenance in 2013, supplies from Chinese domestic producers will increase in the second half of 2013.

Gulf Oil Corp Ltd Plans to Establish Its Lubes Business as Stand Alone Company
The Board of Directors of Gulf Oil Corporation Limited, a Hinduja owned Gulf Oil International Group company, reportedly at its Board Meeting on February 7, discussed the potential restructuring of the various businesses of the Company including demerger of the Lubricants business into a separate listed company and authorized the Committee of Directors to consider the matter and make necessary recommendations.

Lubrizol announced last week the launch of DrivelineNEWS.com, a new website dedicated to driveline topics for both on- and off-road vehicles. In addition to providing the latest industry news, market intelligence and technical insight, DrivelineNEWS.com merges content previously found on Lubrizol's AxleFacts.com and DCTFacts.com. With the launch of this new website, AxleFacts.com has been discontinued. DCTFacts.com began being redirect to the new site last Thursday February 14, 2013.

Calumet's FY Net Income Up Nearly Five-Fold to $205.7 Million; Total SA Posts Mixed Results
Calumet reported net income for the full year of $205.7 million compared to net income of $43.0 million in 2011. Specialty Products segment which includes lubricants posted an increase in gross profit of $50.0 million year over year. French oil company Total SA reported last week that net income increased 4% in the fourth quarter 2012 to 2.381 billion ($3.1 billion) from to 2.290 in the same quarter of 2011.

Brown Evans Distributing and Union Distributing Merge to Form Synergy Petroleum
Brown Evans Distributing, headquartered in Mesa, AZ, and Union Distributing, headquartered in Phoenix, AZ, last week announced plans to merge and form a new company, Senergy Petroleum LLC. Brown Evans Distributing offers a complete line of Chevron, Texaco and MaxPro lubricants while Union Distributing features 76 Lubricants, Kendall, Conoco, Phillips 66, and Mystik lubricants.

Correction: In last week's OEM/Lube News, we stated that in addition to EHC 45 and EHC 65, ExxonMobil also produces EHC 20, 30, 50, and 110 at Baytown. ExxonMobil no longer produces EHC 20, while EHC 30, 50, and 110 are available from ExxonMobil, but the Baytown refinery as of today only produces EHC 45 and 60 base oils.
