Ergon Refining, Inc. announced this past Thursday, January 8, that it will move the price of its naphthenic base oils down by $0.15-0.25 per gallon, effective Tuesday, January 13, 2015. Ergon stated that this price decrease is due to the recent decline in raw material costs.
Ergon just last month, announced that effective December 8, 2014, it was moving the price of its naphthenic base oils down by $0.20 per gallon, shortly after having announced on November 11, 2014, it was moving the price of its naphthenic products down by $0.25 per gallon on light grades and $0.20 per gallon on heavy grades, effective November 14, 2014.
The announcement this past week, was Ergon's fifth naphthenic base oil price reduction since this past August, for a total of approximately $0.90 per gallon during the six month period, fairly much in line with, or similar to, the price reductions of other lube base oil refiners.
One of the other naphthenic base oil refiners contacted last week by OEM/Lube News advised they were "evaluating market conditions but had not made a decision to further adjust their base oil prices at this time".
