UMW Grantt International to Launch New Line of Grantt Lubricants and Develop Export Markets

UMW Grantt International Sdn. Bhd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysian conglomerate UMW Group, launched a full range of newly-enhanced GRANTT lubricants on January 23, 2015.

UMW Grantt International is targeting sales growth of up to RM100 (USD27.8) million over the next five years for the newly-improved range of GRANTT lubricants. GRANTT is an in-house brand and it is fully blended at UMW’s plant.

UMW Engineering and Manufacturing Executive Director, Megat Shahrul Azmir, said the target was expected to be achieved through several phases of penetrating the South-East Asia and Asia-Pacific markets. “We are targeting Indonesia, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia in our first phase of developing an export industry for the product" Megat Shahrul said.

“The GRANTT lubricants have been in the market since 2012 but only now they are upgraded to a premium product for the company. We are also capable of producing 50 million litres per year for all types of lubricating oil and we are confident that we can deliver what the market needs,” he said.

The GRANTT lubricant range includes Grantt Oil Forza, Prime, Platimax and Syntimax Passenger Car Motor Oil; Grantt Oil Tornado 2T and 4T Motorcycle Engine Oil; Grantt Oil Vortex, Storm and Hurricane Diesel Engine Oil; as well as Grant Auto Transmission Fluid, Grantt Gear Oil and Grant Industrial Oils. These oils come in fully synthetic, synthetic blend and mineral premium varieties.

UMW currently operates blending plants in Shah Alam, Malaysia, and in Xinhui, Guangdong Province, China. The former has capacity to make 40,000 metric tons per year and toll blends finished lubes for Shell’s Pennzoil segment and Spanish oil company Repsol. The Shah Alam plant also makes lubricants marketed under UMW’s own brand, Grantt. The Xinhui plant has capacity of 50,000 t/y and toll blends for a number of marketers, including Repsol and GEP. UMW has plans to build its third lubricant blending plant near Port Klang, Malaysia.
