Effective August 1, 2015, the U.S. legal entity Rhein Chemie Corporation has merged into its parent LANXESS Corporation as business unit Rhein Chemie Additives. The merger is part of the previously announced LANXESS Group-wide restructuring program, Lets LANXESS Again, initiated in 2014 that resulted in the merging of several business units.
The Rhein Chemie Additives business unit, which came into existence on January 1, 2015, is the combination of the former Functional Chemicals business unit, the former Rhein Chemie business, and the former LANXESS Rubber Chemicals business units specialty chemicals product line.
The Rhein Chemie Additives business unit will remain in Chardon, Ohio, U.S.A. The LANXESS headquarters in the U.S. is located in Pittsburgh, PA. Apart from the management and administration departments of the North American region, laboratories for the Material Protection Products (MPP) and Functional Chemicals (FCC) business units are also located in Pittsburgh.
The Rhein Chemie Additives business unit develops, manufactures and distributes additives and services for polymer and specialty chemicals processors. Rhein Chemie Additives offers more than 4,000 customized agents, specialty chemicals and service products for the rubber, lubricant and plastics industries as well as colorants, water treatment products and pesticide manufacturing products.
LANXESS, which is headquartered in Cologne, Germany, is a leading specialty chemicals company with sales of EUR 8.0 billion in 2014 and about 16,300 employees in 29 countries. The company is currently represented at 52 production sites worldwide. The core business of LANXESS is the development, manufacturing and marketing of plastics, rubber, intermediates and specialty chemicals.
