Wilmerding, PA-based Allegheny Petroleum Products Co. has opened a blending plant in Angleton, TX, approximately 40 miles south of Houston. The Houston blending plant presently has production capacity of 3 million to 4 million gallons per year; expected to reach 7 million to 8 million gallons per year by the end of 2015.
Initially, the Houston plant will produce diesel fuel additive packages (detergents, corrosion inhibitors, cetane improvers and cold flow improvers, etc.) and soon automotive and industrial lubricants.
Eventually the company will be able to manufacture most of the products that it already manufactures in Pennsylvania. Allegheny's products include automotive and industrial lubricants, metalworking fluids, greases, lubricant additives and fuel additives.
Jim Kudis, President of Allegheny Petroleum, told OEM/Lube News, We purchased the land and existing facility earlier this month. The plant had some usable equipment already there. We are in the process of installing blending and filling equipment to the existing storage tanks at the site.
Our first orders will go out some time in the next week. Between the fuel additive customers that wanted us to support this area and industrial lubricants customers, there was enough demand that warranted us to have blending facility in the Southwest." he said.
Kudis said that Allegheny plans to soon blend lubricants at the Houston plant. We have a lot of industrial customers to which we provide a fluid management service, whereas we support many heavy manufacturing customers with our supply chain. Now we will have a presence that will give us benefits logistically, with the supply chain being in this region for our industrial business," Kudis told OEM/Lube News.
Allegheny Petroleum also does contract manufacturing/toll blending and packaging for other oil companies. Allegheny manufactures over 1400 different finished lubricants, which include PCMO, HDD, ATF, gear oils, industrial lubricants, fuel additives and viscosity index improvers.
All of our products have acquired the appropriate licenses, including API, GM, Ford, Factory Mutual, etc. said Kudis
