2014 Lists of Largest 100 For-Hire and Largest 100 Private Truck Fleets in North America Released

Transport Topics has issued its 2014 lists of the 100 largest for-hire trucking fleets in North America (UPS, FedEx, J.B. Hunt, Con-way and YRC Worldwide, in that order, by revenue, are the top five this year). The only change from last year is that Con-way and J.B. Hunt swapped places.

The 100 largest private trucking fleets (Pepsico, Sysco Systems, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Wal-Mart and US Foods, in that order, by revenue, are the top five this year). The only change from last year is that Sysco Systems and Coca-Cola Enterprises swapped places.

There are nine (9) new carriers on this years for-hire carriers list that were not on last year's list, those being (59) Daseke Inc, (64) United Vision Logistics, (87) The Dependable Companies, (90) Trans-Systems Inc, (92) Arnold Transportation, (93) Calyx Transportation Group, (98) Bridge Terminal Transport, (99) Falcon Transport Co. and (100) McCoy Group.

There are four (4) new carriers on this years private trucking list that were not on last year's list, those being (26) Caltrac Well Services, (31) Veritiv Corp, (55) Golden State Foods and (83) Maines Paper & Food Service.

In total, the number of motorized vehicles represents an enormous amount. For example, the number 1 company on the for-hire list, UPS operates 103,000 company-owned tractors, vans, straight trucks, package cars and motorcycles. The number 5 company, YRC Worldwide, operates 14,500 company-owned tractors. PepsiCo, the number 1 company on the private carriers list, operates 12,132 tractors, 7,745 straight trucks, and 28,309 pickups and cargo vans ...... that's a lot of motor oil and other automotive lubricants consumed annually.

The 2014 TRANSPORT TOPICS Top 100 For-Hire Carriers and Top 100 Private Carriers lists is a project of Transport Topics Publishing Group and features data compiled from annual reports of publicly owned companies and directly from management of privately owned firms. The list ranks companies by the number of heavy-duty tractors they operate, using data from company management and government sources.

Also listed for each company are details such as address; officer(s); web site address; number of tractors, straight trucks, trailers and other equipment; annual sales or net income; employees; and description of business. Transport Topics publishes the Transport Topics 100 in order to accurately document the size and scope of the largest trucking operations and provide analysis of the trends shaping the industry.
