Gulf Oil Opens New Lube Plant in Argentina

Gulf Oil International this past Friday celebrated the official opening of its new state-of-the-art blending plant in La Reja, a province of Buenos Aires. The plant has the capacity to blend 24,000 tons per year and has an initial production target of 6,000 tons per year, expected to grow to 15,000 tons annually in five years.

French Court Rejects All Offers for Petit-Couronne Refinery

After 85 years of operation, the Petoplus Petit Couronne refinery appears set to shut down after a French court rejected all bids to rescue it. The refinery, which has capacity to produce 7,300 bpd of Group I and III base oils, had been running since June 2012 under a tolling deal with Shell, who announced in December it decided not to extend the toll processing contract.

GE To Buy Gear Maker Lufkin for $3.3 Billion

GE has agreed to acquire Lufkin Industries, a provider of artificial lift technologies for the oil and gas industry and a manufacturer of industrial gears, couplings and bearings. The deal is reportedly worth approximately $3.3 billion and is expected to close in the second half of 2013.
