ExxonMobil Announces Lube Price Increase
ExxonMobil announced last Thursday that it will increase its branded and unbranded lubricant and grease prices by up to 4% effective May 16, 2013. This announcement follows recent price increase announcements by Shell Oil Products US (SOPUS), BP Castrol, Petro-Canada, CAM2, Smitty's Supply, Warren Oil, Amalie, Safety-Kleen and Old World Industries.

Oil Re-Refining Company (ORRCO) of Portland Ordered by EPA to Dispose PCB-contaminated Oil
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has ordered Oil Re-Refining Company (ORRCO) of Portland, Oregon to properly dispose of PCB-contaminated oil or pay a federal penalty. ORRCO collects and transports used oil to reprocessing facilities that it owns in Klamath Falls, Portland, and Goshen, Oregon and in Spokane, Washington.

Transformer Oil Re-refiner Hydrodec Considering Group III Base Oil
London-based transformer oil rerefiner Hydrodec, in its year end 2012 earnings release dated March 19, 2013, said that the company plans to develop a pilot plant later this year focused on re-refining used paraffinic base stocks and potentially producing API Group II and Group III lube base oils. Hydrodec reported record revenue of $26.1 million for full year 2012.

Major Fire Breaks Out at YPF's La Plata Refinery
A major fire broke out last Tuesday night at YPF's La Plata refinery near Buenos Aires, caused by flooding that killed at least 57 people in the area. YPF said last week that it would take at least a week before the refinery can renew operations. The refinery has a lube base oil plant with a capacity to produce 4,700 bpd of API Group I base oils.

Three Out of Four Cars Need Service
According to a recent study, 77 percent of vehicles are in need of service or parts. An annual analysis of vehicle inspection forms found the top three problem areas posting the highest failure rates to be engine oil (22 percent), engine cooling systems (20 percent) and brake service (18 percent). When checking lubricants and fluids, the top failure rate was low or dirty motor oil.

DKSH to Distribute Shell Lubricants in Myanmar
DKSH, a Switzerland-based trading company, has recently expanded its partnership with Shell Lubricants into Myanmar, to provide marketing, sales, distribution, merchandising, logistics and back office services to support Shell's market entry into Myanmar's B2C channels. For the past several years, DKSH has been distributing Shell lubricants in Thailand.
