Ipiranga Enters into Agreement with Chevron Brasil to Create a New JV Lubricants Company

Ultrapar Participações S.A. last Thursday announced that its subsidiary Ipiranga Produtos de Petróleo S.A. entered into an agreement with Chevron Brasil Lubrificantes Ltda. to create a new lubricants JV company. Ipiranga and Chevron will own 56% and 44%, respectively, of the JV's capital.

FUCHS PETROLUB SE announced last Monday it is acquiring producer and marketer of specialty synthetic lubricants Ultrachem Inc. The business will continue to be operated out of its New Castle, Delaware location. Closing is expected to take place in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Calumet Reports $147.9 Million 2Q2016 Loss; FUCHS Reports Strong First Half 2016

Calumet Specialty Products reported a net loss of $147.9 million compared to a profit of $2.5 million in the second quarter of 2015. FUCHS PETROLUB reported it increased its sales revenues by 13% to EUR 1,136 (US$1,270) million in the first half of 2016, much due to external growth resulting from two acquisitions made in 2015.

There is a growing use of synthetic lubricants, with continued shifts towards lighter viscosity, according to a report from consultancy Kline & Co. The consumer automotive lubricants segment has the highest penetration of synthetic and semi-synthetic products while the market shifts towards the installed segment.
