Chevron Announces Delo 400 Meeting API CK-4 and FA-4; TOTAL Unveils New RUBIA OPTIMA Meeting API CK-4 and FA-4

Chevron

Chevron Products Company, a Chevron U.S.A. Inc. division, maker of the Delo brand of technologically advanced engine oils, lubricants and coolants last Thursday announced the availability of its larger and higher performing line of Delo 400 API CK-4 and FA-4 heavy duty engine oils (HDEO). This new product line is engineered using an advanced formulation of Chevron's proprietary ISOSYN engine oil formulation, ISOSYN Advanced Technology.

Chevron's ISOSYN Advanced Technology is a unique combination of Chevron's formulating expertise, high performance additive chemistry and premium base oils that helps extend the durability of critical diesel engine parts. The new Delo 400 with ISOSYN Advanced Technology product line offers up to:

- 68 percent better wear protection*
- 46 percent better piston deposit control*
- 35 percent better oxidation control*
*Improvements are relative to test limits for the prior generation of HDEOs

"We're seeing a major shift in how our customers select engine oil," said Rommel Atienza, Chevron Lubricants North America Commercial Brands Manager. "Oil selection is a strategic business decision. Not all business needs are the same, so it is important that customers have options. In preparation for the new API CK-4 and API FA-4 categories, Chevron set out to develop a range of Delo 400 heavy duty engine oils to provide choices for both on and off road customers to meet their specific goals."

Following a four-year development phase, the new Delo 400 products have gone through the most diverse and extensive field test program in Chevron's history. Testing of the Delo 400 API CK-4 and FA-4 products with ISOSYN Advanced Technology was conducted on over 950 engines across a range of on-and-off highway vehicles including:

- 645 On-Road Vehicles:
Tractor Trailers, Cement Mixers, Waste Trucks and Diesel Pick-Up Trucks
- 255 Off-Road Vehicles:
Tractors, Wheel Loaders, Bulldozers, Haul Trucks and Excavators
- 52 Marine/Oil & Gas:
Inland Marine, Fracking and Drilling Rig Engines

"With millions of miles and tens of thousands of hours of testing across nine industries, we didn't focus solely on on-highway fleets, but emphasized a more well-rounded approach to assist the trucking, construction, agriculture, mining, inland marine industries, among others," said Len Badal, Chevron Lubricants Global Delo Brand Manager. "With ISOSYN Advanced Technology, Chevron's next generation of engine oil formulation, we've succeeded in creating a new Delo 400 product line with the longest drain interval capabilities and the best engine protection in our company's history."

Chevron conducted its most recent teardown on a refrigeration hauler owned by Boaty's Transport located in Jackson, GA. The teardown was conducted on a Kenworth T680 truck with PACCAR MX-14 engine after 530,000 miles with oil drains at 40,000 miles with the Delo 400 ZFA SAE 10W-30 API FA-4.

"After 530,000 miles of running the Delo 400 ZFA SAE 10W-30, we are pleased to see how well it protected our key engine components, while also providing our company up to two percent fuel efficiency benefits from the previous SAE 15W-40 product we were using in the fleet," said Michael Boatwright, owner of Boaty's Transport. "The combination of engine protection and improved fuel efficiency is a real plus in helping us manage our costs in this competitive business."

The 2017 Delo 400 Product Line Availability

Leveraging the ISOSYN Advanced Technology, the new Delo 400 product line is on schedule and has begun shipping, offering optimized performance and better engine protection than any prior Delo product, extending the life of the vehicle and helping minimize the cost of ownership.

Chevron has unveiled a new look for the Delo 400 API CK-4 and FA-4 product lines - both available in a variety of viscosity grades - to ensure optimal differentiation between products thus decreasing any confusion. The new design system includes new jug colors, revised label designs, and a new coordinated label and cap system.

TOTAL

The Lubricants business of TOTAL Specialties USA Inc. last Thursday announced the launch of the new RUBIA OPTIMA range. This range, designed for heavy-duty engines, complies with the new categories defined by the American Petroleum Institute (API) which took effect December 1, 2016

The API CJ-4 service category that was developed nearly a decade ago will be replaced by two new categories, API CK-4 and API FA-4, to meet the new standards regarding greenhouse gas emission limits. Cleaner and more fuel-efficient diesel engines are now mandatory and require new oils. With the RUBIA OPTIMA range, TSUSA partners with its customers to offer technologically advanced lubricants.

Thanks to its complex formulations, the RUBIA OPTIMA range provides better engine protection and an unparalleled level of performance, says the company. It will help limit carbon dioxide emissions while improving the engine's fuel consumption and improve oxidation resistance, allowing the longest oil drain intervals authorized by the manufacturers.

Introducing the new RUBIA OPTIMA range which fully meets the new CK-4 and FA-4 specifications:
- RUBIA OPTIMA 1100 15W-40 and RUBIA OPTIMA 1100 FE 10W-30 both meet the CK-4 specification, and the 1100 FE 10W-30 lowers viscosity and offers fuel economy benefits.
- RUBIA OPTIMA 2100 XFE 10W-30, which meets the FA-4 specification, enables extra fuel economy by reducing High Temperature High Shear (HTHS) viscosity. It has limited backward compatibility because of its lower HTHS viscosity.

"With our Lubricants business in the United States at a consistent growth over the past five years and with projections to maintain the expansion, we will continue to listen to the market's needs and deliver our customers more eco-friendly and fuel-efficient products. Engineered specifically for the American market, our RUBIA OPTIMA line is designed to meet the new regulations and to improve the performance and protection of the heavy-duty engine," said Christophe Doussoux, Senior Vice President of Lubricants at TOTAL Specialties USA, Inc.

The new RUBIA OPTIMA benefits from state-of-the-art "T.I.R. Technology", which refers to:
- Total protection: industry tested, RUBIA products are put through numerous tests (Laboratory, bench and road tests) to achieve results that show excellent performance in oxidation stability and protection against wear, deposits and soot.
- International approvals: RUBIA has a greater number of advanced approvals than most products on the market. This means multi-brand fleets require fewer products to meet crucial requirements of the most advanced engines on the market.
- Reduced costs: RUBIA offers better fleet cost savings with a full suite of TOTAL FUEL ECONOMY engine and transmission oils, and includes TOTAL CHECK, a leading condition monitoring service of used oil analysis.

The TOTAL Group has collaborated closely with key heavy-duty original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to develop the new RUBIA OPTIMA oils with performance that surpass CJ-4 oils with outstanding oxidation control, shear stability, and oil aeration control. These benefits illustrate the RUBIA OPTIMA range's numerous benefits and performances validated by key OEMs:
- Outstanding Wear Protection
In the official Cummins ISB engine test, RUBIA OPTIMA 2100 XFE 10W-30 formed a protective film between the moving surfaces of the tappet and cam that reduced wear by up to 56%.
- Excellent Piston Cleanliness
The Caterpillar C13 test measures piston deposits at high temperature. In the absence of deposits, the engine performs at its optimum efficiency. RUBIA OPTIMA 1100 FE 10W-30 keeps engines up to 70% cleaner than most oils in the market.
- Exceptional Oxidation Control
The Volvo T13 test measures the aging of oil among others by the variation in viscosity. The viscosity increase of RUBIA OPTIMA 1100 15W-40 is 83% lower than the test limits.

The company states that the new RUBIA OPTIMA range by the TOTAL Group is designed specifically to meet the needs of today's market.
