Finished Lubricant Prices Begin to Fall

With lube base oil prices falling significantly during the past couple years, while finished lubricant prices have remained unchanged since mid January 2015, we knew that finished lubricant prices would eventually fall. ExxonMobil and Castrol announced price reductions earlier this month with Shell and Valvoline announcing price decreases last week.

Phillips 66 Lubricants to Consolidate Its Brand Portfolio

Phillips 66 Lubricants last Thursday announced it will consolidate its Lubricants portfolio into two brands, Phillips 66® and Kendall® Motor Oil, beginning July 1, 2016. According to the company, transitioning away from a tri-branded strategy will help to elevate the profile of Phillips 66 Lubricants as a national lubricants supplier and better position it for the future.

Bridgestone Ties Up With Shell Lubricants

Bridgestone Americas and Shell Lubricants last Tuesday announced the launch of the Nationwide Network Shell Lubricants program in which Pennzoil® and Quaker State® motor oils and Shell Rotella engine oils will be available to the Bridgestone Affiliated Retailer Nationwide Network. In December 2015, Bridgestone and Carl Icahn Enterprises were embattled in a bidding war for Pep Boys which Icahn eventually won, with Bridgestone bowing out.

AXEL Americas Completes Multi-Million Dollar Expansion of its Rosedale, Mississippi Grease Plant

AXEL Americas announced last Monday that it has completed the expansion of its Rosedale, Mississippi facility. This expansion includes a new, Calcium Sulfonate production line and an additional Polyurea production line. New production and filling lines increase annual capacity by over 17 million pounds.

Russian Government to Privatize Rosneft, Bashneft in 2016

Russia’s government plans to privatize a number of energy sector companies in 2016, including Rosneft and Bashneft oil majors, Russian Minister of Economic Development Alexei Ulyukayev said on Sunday February 14. Rosneft and Bashneft are both producers of API Group I lube base oils.

ExxonMobil is launching Mobil ServSM Lubricant Analysis, a new mobile-enabled used oil analysis service, in the United States and Canada. Mobil Serv Lubricant Analysis, which replaces ExxonMobil’s SignumSM Oil Analysis, will be rolled out globally in other markets later this year.
