Lakewood, WA-based fuel and lubricant distributor Pettit Oil Company closed its doors abruptly last Friday, leaving a recorded message on its corporate phones that it is no longer in business.
The recorded voice message said Hello. Thank you for calling Pettit Oil Company. We regret to inform you that after many years of service, Pettit Oil has closed its doors and is no longer in business. We appreciate your many years of loyalty as a customer, thank you.
The closure follows an attempt in late November by Pettit Oil to reorganize under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. That Chapter 11 petition, filed November 25, reported debt totaling about $22.5 million and assets valued at $18.7 million.
Pettit Oil Company announced in February 2013 that it was acquiring the heating oil and commercial fuel and lubricants distribution assets held within PNEC Corporation (PACIFIC NORTHWEST ENERGY COMPANY) which does business as SC Fuels, headquartered in Tacoma, WA.
According to its website, Pettit Oil Company operates distribution facilities in Everett, Lakewood, Hoquiam, Forks, Port Angeles, Port Townsend and Bremerton, Washington. The company supplies fuels and lubricants to a variety of customers within the marine, commercial, industrial, automotive, retail, and heating oil categories. The company distributes several brands of lubricants including Chevron, Texaco, 76 Lubricants, CAM2 and Red Line Synthetic.
The Pettit Oil website reports that the company has around 200 employees, and has operated in Western Washington for more than 75 years. The company had sales of $319 million in 2012 and served more than 10,000 customers.
