Cummins has announced that its Oil Registration process has officially restarted effective July 1, 2015 for CES20074, CES20075, CES20076, CES20077, CES20078 and CES20081. Cummins CES20085 and CES14603 process changes are not released at this time.
On June 1, 2014, Cummins announced its intention to temporarily stop oil registrations. Dan Nyman, Technical Advisor - Chemical Technology & Lubricants Performance Testing, Cummins Inc., Columbus, Indiana, told OEM/Lube News "Cummins registration program was developed to provide a list of fluids that meet our standard requirements to our customers. Changes were necessary to better insure our customers obtain approved fluids for their engines".
A few process changes are being finalized but it will not affect the re-start date. The changes will be announced as they are finalized.
"All oils currently registered oils will have to be re-registered. This re-registration process is being done to accommodate the changes in the process and to weed out oils that are no longer in the market" said Nyman.
Registration fee is $15,000 and a $1,000 annually maintenance fee. "These fees are to cover internal testing and administration of the program . The maintenance fee is to cover costs of our new audit program and to force the removal of obsolete products" Nyman told OEM/Lube News.
As with the previous oil registrations, San Antonio, Texas-based consulting and testing firm, TEI (Test Engineering Inc.), will collect the data and funds for the registration process. TEI will update the industry when the CES20085 and CES14603 specifications are scheduled to re-start.
Updated registration forms, available from TEI, attention Steve Gearhart, must be used for all new registrations effective immediately.
TEI has several registration requests on file that were submitted after the shutdown on June 1, 2014, these requests can't be processed until the information is transferred to the updated forms because of the additional data that must be reported.
