Synthetic Lubes Driven Much by OEM Demands to Reach 18% of Total Global Lube Demand by 2023

Global finished lubricant demand, excluding process oil, is projected to reach 38.7 million tons in 2023 up from 33.5 million tons in 2013. Of this, synthetic lubricant's share of the 33.5 million metric tons global lubricants market in 2013 will grow to 18 percent of the 38.7 million tons of total lubricant demand in 2023, said research and consulting firm Kline & Co.

Gulf Petrochem to Acquire Indian Lube Blender Sah Petroleums

Sharjah, U.A.E.-based Gulf Petrochem Group has offered to buy Mumbai, India-based lubricant producer Sah Petroleums, stricking a deal to buy the 75 per cent privately held stake for Rs 60 crore (US$10 million) and additionally making an open offer to buy the other 25 per cent stake from public shareholders which may cost up to Rs 20 crore.

Saudi Aramco Becomes Majority Owner of S-Oil

Saudi Aramco has agreed to acquire Seoul-based Hanjin Group’s entire 28.4% stake in S-OIL Corporation for a total amount of approximately US $1.95 billion. This share purchase will increase Saudi Aramco’s ownership interest in S-OIL from 34.99% to 63.4%. The remaining 36.6% stake is owned by South Korean shareholders.

Australia to BP: "You Can't Trademark the Color Green"

BP has lost its attempt to trademark the color green which dominates its sunburst logo, after a long-running battle with Woolworths, which considers the green shade in its logo too similar. IP Australia, the government agency responsible for administering trademarks, found BP was unable to show convincing evidence that it was indelibly linked in the average petrol consumer’s mind to the dark green shade.
