Taiwan's CPC and Shell Lubricants Co. have decided to permanently shut down their 250,000 tons per year Group I joint lube base oil refinery and lube blending plant in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The plants are operated by CPC-Shell Lubricants Co. (CSLC), a joint venture between CPC (49%) and Shell (51%).

Chevron Phillips Chemical announced last Monday it received Board of Directors approval and obtained the necessary environmental permit from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to expand normal alpha olefins (NAO) production capacity at its Cedar Bayou plant in Baytown, Texas. This will provide an additional 100,000 metric tons per year of capacity.

China Petroleum & Chemical Corp., a.k.a. Sinopec, last week said it was establishing a new subsidiary for its lubricants business, Sinopec Lubricant Co., as part of an effort through which external capital can be channeled into Sinopec Corp.'s lubricant business to accelerate its development

Porsche is launching its own engine oil, Porsche Classic Motor Oil 20W-50 and 10W-60, for older air-cooled flat-four and flat-six Porsche engines to meet the lubrication requirements of all Porsche air-cooled engines. Porsche made the transition to liquid-cooled engines in the 911 model line in 1998.

Infineum last Wednesday formally opened its new China Business and Technology Centre (CBTC) in Jinqiao, Shanghai. The CBTC will become Infineum’s business and technology hub in China to support the company’s expansion in the region.
