Detroit Diesel Revises Its Lubricating Oil, Fuel and Filters Brochure

Detroit Diesel Corporation has recently revised its Lubricating Oil, Fuel and Filters Brochure, DDC-SVC-BRO-0001. This publication specifies the type of lubricants, fuels, filters, and related maintenance intervals required for the diesel-fueled engines manufactured and marketed by Detroit(TM). The information in this publication applies to Series 60, Series 50, Series 55, Series 40, MBE 900, MBE 4000, DD13, DD15, and DD16 engines. This is basically the same or very similar to the bulletin that many of you industry veterans remember as Detroit Diesel's 7SE270, Engine Requirements - Lubricating Oil, Fuel and Filters brochure, or bulletin.

More specifically, this publication covers lubrication requirements for 4-cycle Detroit(TM) engines, SAE viscosity grade selection, sulfated ash and total base number, required/recommended oil drain intervals, diesel fuel quality and selection, use of supplemental additives, filtration, as well as topics such as use of synthetic oils, use of rerefined oils, lubricant selection outside North America, guidance for extending oil drain intervals, used lubricating oil analysis, etc.

Detroit Diesel makes a special note that for 2-cycle and all Off-Highway engine lubricating oil, fuel, and coolant requirements, one should refer to MTU Technical Publication, Fluids and Lubricants, Specification Bulletin, A001061/35E, and that for information on fuels, lubricants, and filters required for Detroit(TM) engines using alternate fuels (other than diesel fuel) and other engine products not covered in this publication, one should refer to the specific publications for those engines.

Detroit Diesel lists in this brochure the Approved POWER GUARD Oil Specifications, 93K218, 93K214 and 93K215, first issued in 2002.
