Oronite Announces Availability of Its Marine and Powergen System (MAPS™) Additive

Chevron Oronite last Monday announced the global, commercial availability of its new Marine and Powergen System (MAPS™) additive package. Delivering outstanding performance in acid neutralization, deposit control and oxidation stability to all marine and power generation engine oils, MAPS advanced technology can be used in combination with both API Group I and Group II base oils. It also accommodates all current fuel types and sulfur ranges and is suitable for the latest generation of engines as well as for older engine types.

"MAPS has been developed to help the marine industry face its latest challenges," says Xavier Fournier, global marine manager, Chevron Oronite. "For example, 'slow steaming' has become a common practice in the marine industry because it helps lower fuel consumption, which reduces fuel costs. Yet 'slow steaming' increases the likelihood of cold corrosion developing in low-speed, two-stroke engine cylinder liners. MAPS can deliver the neutralizing power to meet the demands of the newest engines under these 'slow steaming' conditions."

The company also explained that MAPS can help simplify logistics. Through a combination of four distinct products the full range of BN levels and Marine applications are covered -- Marine Cylinder Lubricants, System Oils, and Trunk Piston Engine Oils for Marine and Power Generation lubricants.

"As a pioneer in the marine lubricant additive industry for more than 50 years, Chevron Oronite has developed MAPS using its latest additive technology, testing it both in a proven in-house development program and in the field," explained Alex Cole, global product specialist, Chevron Oronite. "Major OEMs have acknowledged the use of finished lubricants based on MAPS technology, including the latest 100 BN marine cylinder lubricant."

While MAPS additives are available globally through Chevron Oronite's worldwide supply chain, the company explained its production capabilities in Singapore has it well positioned to serve customers in the Asia Pacific region.

Headquartered in San Ramon, California, Chevron Oronite maintains three regional offices in Houston (Americas Region), Paris (Europe-Africa-Middle East Region), and Singapore (Asia-Pacific Region); manufacturing sites in Belle Chasse, Louisiana (USA), Gonfreville (France), Singapore, and Mauá (Brazil); an affiliated blending and shipping plant in Omaezaki, Japan; and interests in additive companies in India and Mexico.
