Calumet Acquires Another Lube Company
Calumet last Friday announced that it acquired Gilbert, Arizona-based United Petroleum Company, a wholesale supplier and distributor of its Quantum-branded oils, coolants and greases into the passenger car, heavy duty truck, farming and industrial end-markets. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Four Michigan Individuals Hit With Criminal Charges for Selling Mislabeled Motor Oils
The Michigan state attorney general last Wednesday announced felony criminal charges against four Wayne County individuals for allegedly selling intentionally mislabeled motor oil products to retailers across the state as well as misdemeanors for possessing an uncertified measuring device to sell commodities.

Nynas, Valero Dissolve Three Rivers Base Oil Supply and Marketing Agreement
An agreement, established in 2003, between Nynas and Valero providing for Nynas to purchase and market the naphthenic production at Valeros base oil plant in Three Rivers, Texas, has been dissolved. Valero is now marketing the naphthenic base oil produced at its 2,400 barrels per day Three Rivers plant on its own.

Tide Water Oil to Form Lube Blending and Marketing JV with Japan's JX Nippon Oil
Tide Water Oil, a member of Andrew Yule group, has signed a MoU with JX Nippon Oil to set up a 50:50 joint venture company to manufacture and sell 'Eneos' brands of lubricants in India and its neighboring countries. Tide Water already sells the Eneos brand of lubricants which it manufactures in Chennai and Navi Mumbai under a technical partnership with JX Nippon.

Global Lubricant Additive Consumption to Reach 4.5 Million Tons by 2017
Global lubricant additive consumption is projected to grow at 2.2% per year from 4 million metric tons in 2012 to 4.5 million tons by 2017, exceeding the 1.7 percent annual growth rate projected for finished lubricants, research and consulting firm Kline & Co. projected in a webinar last week.
