In June of last year, we reported that GM had added 19 additional dexos™ oils to its list of licensed motor oils, bringing the total to well over 100 licensed dexos™ oils. In the eight months since, GM has added 32 additional dexos1™ oils and 20 additional dexos2™ oils to its published list of 'GM Licensed dexos™ Products'.
New to the list, adding both dexos1™ and dexos2™ licensed motor oils, are BP and Castrol, who back in late 2010 announced they had decided to not licenses their motor oils against dexos™. Also, although Chevron back in 2010 had also previously decided against licensing their motor oils against dexos™, Havoline motor oils are now included in the lists. Chevron and CITGO Say No to dexos1™ Licensing September 20, 2010 issue of the OEM/Lube News.
The official GM lists include dexos1™ oils, specifically designed to meet the needs of GM gasoline engines, and dexos2™ oils, specifically designed to meet the needs of GM diesel engines. dexos2™ is also the recommended service fill oil for European gasoline engines.
