ExxonMobil to Produce Group II Base Stocks at Its Rotterdam Refinery

ExxonMobil announced last week that it will expand the hydrocracker unit at its Rotterdam refinery to upgrade heavier byproducts into cleaner, higher-value finished products, including EHC Group II base stocks and ultra-low sulfur diesel. The refinery, operated by Esso Nederland BV, will be the first to produce EHC Group II base stocks in Europe.

Afton Chemical's 3Q Profit Up, Sales Down

Afton Chemical posted operating profit for the third quarter of 2015 of $100.5 million, a 6.6% increase over the third quarter operating profit last year of $94.3 million. Sales for the petroleum additives segment of NewMarket Corporation for the third quarter of 2015 were $536.2 million, down 8.4% versus the same period last year.

Clean Harbors last Monday announced the formation of Kleen Performance Products, a new business unit dedicated to the research, development, sales and distribution of quality renewable engine oils, lubricants and other automotive and industrial products. Clean Harbors intends to rename as Kleen Performance Products its current “Oil Re-refining and Recycling” reporting segment.

Idemitsu Doubles Lube Production Capacity at Tianjin

Idemitsu Kosan announced that work has recently been completed to increase lubricant production capacity at Idemitsu Lube (China) Co., Ltd. (Tianjin), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company. Production capacity has increased from 56,000 kl/year to 120,000 kl/year, making this plant one of the Idemitsu Group´s largest overseas lubricants plant.

Major Oil Company 3Q Profits Down Again

BP, Shell, ExxonMobil, Total and Chevron last week all reported lower third quarter earnings compared to the third quarter of 2014, with Shell reporting a loss in the third quarter. Refiner Phillips 66, on the other hand, reported a 58% increase in third quarter earnings compared to the previous year's third quarter.

Law Requires Oil Distributors and Oil-Change Locations to Provide Motor Oil Brand, SAE Viscosity and Performance Level on Invoices - Update

California and Texas have adopted National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Handbook 130, Uniform Laws and Regulations in the Areas of Legal Metrology and Engine Fuel Quality. This makes 23 states that require motor oil distributors and oil-change locations to provide motor oil brand, SAE viscosity and motor oil performance level on their invoices, bills of lading, and receipts.
