A ceremony dedicated to the opening of the INTESMO grease manufacturing plant, a 25-75 joint venture between OOO LLC-International (a wholly-owned LUKOIL subsidiary) and OAO Rossiyskiye Zhelezniye Dorogi (Russian Railways), took place last week in Volgograd. Vagit Alekperov, LUKOILs President, and Valentin Gapanovich, Senior Vice President for Innovative Development attended the ceremony.
The INTESMO plant (Innovative Lubricating Technologies), located in Volgograd at the site of LUKOIL-Volgogradneftepererabotka refinery, is designed to produce up to 30,000 tons of grease per year. Around one third of this amount will be purchased by OAO Rossiyskiye Zhelezniye (OAO RZHD), which will cover approximately 80% of the needs of Russias major carrier for railway greases. OAO RZHD is the largest grease consumer in Russia. The range of the products manufactured by the plant includes the lubricants to be used in major industrial and transportation sectors.
INTESMO, a member of the European Lubricating Grease Institute, manufactures grease lubricants compliant with the European quality standards in view of the environmental safety requirements. The manufactured products are characterized by a wide application sphere for domestic and imported equipment.
OAO Rossiyskiye Zhelezniye Dorogi, which employs over 976,000 people, is the second largest railway network in the world with 85,200 km of track 43,100 km of which are electrified, responsible for 42% of Russias total freight traffic (including pipelines) and more than 32% of passenger traffic.
