Transport Topics has issued its 2016 list of the 100 largest for-hire trucking fleets in North America, of which UPS, FedEx, XPO Logistics, J.B. Hunt and YRC Worldwide, in that order, are the top five this year. Following, at number 6 through 10 on the list, are Swift Transportation, Schneider, Hub Group, Landstar System and TransForce, in that order.

There are six (6) new carriers on this years for-hire carriers list that were not on last year's list, those being (56) Birmingham, AL-based PS Logistics, (94) Waco, TX-based Central Freight Lines, (96) Monaca, PA-based, PGT Trucking, (97) Lafayette, LA-based  Dupre Logistics, (98) Salem, OR-based May Trucking and (99) Auburn, WA-based Oak Harbour Freight Lines, are new to the top 100.

The number 1 company on the for-hire list, UPS operates 109,423 company-owned tractors, vans, straight trucks, package cars and motorcycles, as well as 237 aircraft. The number 2 company, FedEx, operates 27,282 company-owned tractors and 72,488 straight trucks, as well as 657 aircraft. XPO Logistics, number 3, operates 11,361 company owned tractors and 6,566 owner operator tractors.

The 2016 TRANSPORT TOPICS Top 100 For-Hire Carriers list is a project of Transport Topics Publishing Group and features data compiled from annual reports of publicly owned companies and directly from management of privately owned firms. The list ranks companies by the number of heavy-duty tractors they operate, using data from company management and government sources.

Also listed for each company are details such as address; officer(s); web site address; number of tractors, straight trucks, trailers and other equipment; annual sales or net income; employees; and description of business. Transport Topics publishes the Transport Topics 100 in order to accurately document the size and scope of the largest trucking operations and provide analysis of the trends shaping the industry.
