Irvine, CA-based waste oil collector and re-refiner Evergreen Oil Inc. last Tuesday filed for Chapter 11 in California bankruptcy court along with its parent and sole shareholder Evergreen Environmental Holdings Inc., saying it intends to market itself for sale to various interested parties.
Evergreen said because of a fire in 2011 that severely damaged some of its operating equipment and other reasons, its cash flow has been restricted, making it difficult for the company to operate.
Evergreen collects used drain oil across California from a variety of sources and transports it to the company's permitted facility in Newark, California, and re-refines it to produce lube base oils which can then be formulated with additives, compounded and blended to produce standard lubricants; closing the recycling loop from engine to engine.
Evergreen's re-refinery in Newark has the capacity to produce 1,150 bpd of Group II base oil.
