Total Kenya Ltd, part of the TOTAL Group, has invested Sh100 (US$1.2) million in an additional filling line at the companys lubricating oil blending plant in Mombasa.
The new line and ancillary equipment have the capability of labeling, filling, capping and batch numbering 3,400 containers per hour. At the end of the line, the lubricant containers are packed in cartons, strapped and labeled ready for storage and onward transportation, said Total Kenya's lubricants operations manager Samuel Njenga.
The base oils for blending are supplied from the Total refinery in Havre, France.
Total Kenya markets lubricants for; automotive, motorbikes, earth moving, agriculture, industrial, fishing, racing, mining, marine and aviation. Some of the lubricants blended at this plant are Rubia for diesel engines, Quartz for Petrol engines, Racing 2T/ Special 2T and Special 4T for 2 stroke and 4 stroke Motorcycles respectively, Dynatrans AC 30 and MULTAGRI TM for earthmoving and agricultural equipment, CARTER for industrial gearboxes, NEPTUNA for fishing and leisure boats, AURELIA for marine vessels and power plants, AERO D for aviation engines and several car-care products for the body, tires and fuel system.
According to the company's website, the Total Kenya Lube Oil Blending Plant, located in Shimanzi, Mombasa, was built in 1952 and occupies 6,000 square meters and is the second largest plant in the region (after Shell). The turnover in 2011 was 15.2 KT, comprising 28% petrol engine oils, 56% diesel engine oils, 4% gear oils and 12% industrial oils.
