JX Holdings to Acquire TonenGeneral

Japan's largest oil refiner, JX Holdings, announced last Thursday that it plans to take over TonenGeneral Sekiyu, Japan's third-largest oil refiner, forming a giant with combined sales of 14.3 trillion yen (US$116 billion). This follows Idemitsu Kosan's November 12 announcement that it agreed to merge with Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K., creating the second-largest Japanese crude oil refiner, after JX Holdings.

The new Cape Town branch is the first dedicated ExxonMobil lubricants office to open in South Africa since 2005. Shell Chemical last Monday announced the final investment decision to increase Alpha Olefins (AO) production at its chemical manufacturing site in Geismar, Louisiana, making the site the largest AO producer in the world. Shell will construct a fourth AO unit, adding 425,000 tons of capacity.
