Private equity firm ArcLight Capital Partners announced December 29, 2015 that Chelsea Petroleum Products Holdings, an affiliate of ArcLight, completed the purchase of Gulf Oil LP from Cumberland Farms, Inc. The purchase includes the Gulf Oil LP lubricants business.

Tata Motors and PETRONAS Lubricants International have launched a range of oils for the Indian automobile manufacturer's passenger vehicles in the Indian market. The co-branded range of lubricants, comprised of Tata Motors Genuine Oil CH-4 15W-40 and Tata Motors Genuine Gear Oil 80EP, makes part of a bigger range of nine co-branded oils.

Swedish oil company Nynas has now completed the takeover of the former Shell refinery in Hamburg, Germany. The refinery will have a production capacity of specialty oils up to 330,000 tons annually. On December 13, 2011, Nynas AB agreed to buy Royal Dutch Shell's Harburg base-oil plant and associated refining facilities in Hamburg. No price was disclosed.
