Calumet Launches Group III Base Oil

Calumet Specialty Products Partners, L.P. announced last Monday the launch of CALPAR 4GIII, the Company's first API Group III synthetic base oil. CALPAR 4GIII is a high quality paraffinic base oil that has been engineered by the Company's in-house R&D and technical refining staff to meet the American Petroleum Institute requirements for Group III base oils. The Group III classification characterizes the most highly refined base oil derived from crude oil, providing viscosity index levels above 120 and very high saturate content.

Calumet's datasheet for Calpar 4GIII shows that it has typical ASTM D445 viscosities at 40C and 100C of 19.78 cSt and 4.26 cSt, respectively, resulting in an ASTM D2270 VI of 123.

CALPAR 4GIII is designed for extensive use in engine oil formulations to improve gas mileage, reduce emissions and extend oil change intervals. CALPAR 4GIII offers Low volatility, High viscosity index, Excellent low temperature properties and Outstanding oxidation/thermal stability

"We are very proud to be the first U.S. based virgin producer of Group III base oil. The addition of Group III production to our Shreveport product slate demonstrates Calumet's commitment to keeping up with today's evolving marketplace," said Bill Anderson, Executive VP of Sales at Calumet Specialty Products Partners. "This launch broadens and enhances our portfolio, which now includes products across Group I, Group II, Group III and Group V."

In addition to the newly announced Group III Calpar 4GIII, Calumet has the capacity to produce 4800 bpd Group I, 7000 bpd Group II, and 100 bpd Group V naphthenic lube base oils at its Shreveport refinery. In addition Calumet's Princeton, Louisiana refinery has the capacity to produce 6900 bpd naphthenic base oil.

CALPAR 4GIII is available to ship from Calumet's Shreveport, LA refinery and its Burnham, IL terminal.

Calumet Specialty Products Partners, L.P, is based in Indianapolis, Indiana and operates thirteen manufacturing facilities located in northwest Louisiana, northwest Wisconsin, northern Montana, western Pennsylvania, Texas, New Jersey, Oklahoma and eastern Missouri.
